“The Black Cat” was first published in The Saturday Evening Post in August of 1843—the same year that “The Gold Bug” won Poe a $100 prize and publication in the Philadelphia Dollar Newspaper. This edition is letterpress printed, and includes two original illustrations by tattooist John Reardon, illustrator of EDGAR ALLAN POE: TALES, MYSTERIES & CONTRIVANCES.

“The Black Cat” was published in May 2020 in an edition of 300 Classic Edition copies on cream paper; 75 Patrons’ Edition copies on milkweed paper, individually numbered and signed by the publisher and artist; and 12 half-leather copies printed on pearl white paper and bound in half-Morocco and handmade paste papers, individually numbered and signed by the publisher and artist. It was included in the Thornwillow Dispatch in June 2020 in response to popular demand during the pre-publication subscription period for EDGAR ALLAN POE: TALES, MYSTERIES & CONTRIVANCES.
