Alphababel was the first Thornwillow children’s book since the very first publication of Hello Sun. It is, at its heart, a celebration of languages and family.
When Savine and Luke Pontifell had their daughter, Charlotte, Savine began teaching her French and Latin, as well as English. As a bonafide polyglot with a degree in translation from Georgetown, Savine understood that to teach children languages, they need reference points. Working with their daughter inspired them to put together an alphabet book of translated words. They teamed up with artist and illustrator, John Hutton, who was passionate about children’s illustrations, to create a book that offered language reference points in delightful pictures and word lists that translated into German, French and Latin.
