  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

William F. Buckley, Jr. once said, “One doesn’t read Jane Austen; one re-reads Jane Austen.” It is this sentiment that explains why, more than two hundred years after its publication, Pride and Prejudice is one of the most beloved books in the world. Austen herself called the novel her “own darling child,” and it is with that heartfelt sentiment that Thornwillow Press announces the publication of a very special edition of this timeless novel, one that would have fit perfectly on Austen’s own bookshelf. Using the same time-tested craftsmanship, techniques and style of the early Victorian period, the leather and cloth bindings on this edition will be historically accurate greens and, most fitting, the boards will be a replica of the wallpaper in Austen’s own home.

  • Frankenstein or: the Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley with artwork by Irena Martens

Since its publication, Frankenstein has asserted an uninterrupted claim on cultural relevance, but Mary Shelley's story of the Monster, a creation of society which society itself rejects, has perhaps never been more relevant than now. In an age of public "takedowns", where stars are made in fifteen minutes, and rejected even quicker, where monsters are created and reviled for ratings, the story of Frankenstein's Monster has something to teach us all. We hope to revive Frankenstein in a fine press edition, which, through illustration and handmade bookmaking, will bring out the forgotten complexities of the novel. Allow us to introduce you to 'FRANKENSTEIN: THE MODERN PROMETHEUS'.

Paper and Full Leather editions are out of print.

  • The Sonnets by William Shakespeare, Foreword by Neil L. Rudenstine

"Shakespeare’s Sonnets are the greatest single work of lyric poetry in English, and many individual poems are as powerful as those in any language. Yet they are scarcely read, except for the few that are regularly anthologized. This is not necessarily surprising. To be confronted with 154 sonnets is a considerable challenge, especially if the poems are as complex as any work written by Shakespeare. The effort, however, is more than simply rewarding, because the sequence consists of love poetry that is as passionate, intimate, daring, searing and lyrical as any that we may ever encounter."

    Neil L. Rudenstine
