In the days after President Trump’s inauguration, a paradigm-shifting exchange took place. Chuck Todd asked White House adviser Kellyanne Conway why the President insisted upon disseminating “provable falsehoods.” They weren’t, she said, they were “alternative facts.” We live in a world of extremes, where every side is given a podium, and the alternatives crash into other. In the past, debate usually involved the question, “What do the facts mean?” President Trump has not participated in this grand discourse.
